Tachi

n.

Tachi sword (a type of curved Japanese sword, very similar to the Katana, but predating the Samurai-period sword.)

n.

Soul; spirit. This is basically the same as the Western metaphysical concept of a soul.

Tanto

n.

Japanese-style dagger. Basically a very short version of a Katana, generally used for emergency self defense, sometimes carried by women.

Heaven; the heavens; sky. This is a word usually used as part of a compound word. Contrast with "chi" (= "ground", "earth"), as in "tenchi" = "heaven and earth" or "nature".
